Does this sound familiar?

UK taxpayers are being increasingly hit by stealth taxes, David Derbyshire tells us in the Telegraph. Although Britain's top income tax rate is 40 percent, the hidden taxes mean that middle and high earners now pay up to 50 per cent of their salary to the Treasury, compared with only 36 per cent before Labour took office.

Comments:
Like Air NZ splitting out the fuel surcharge from the airfare (but it doesn't make the flight any cheaper doesn't it) socialist governments manage the same trickery with far more subtlity.

Rates, GST, Registrations, Licenses, Income Tax, Late Fees, Fuel excise, and upping the interest rates on your mortgage and credit cards all help to leave the actual amount of money in your pocket a lot less than the "headline rate"

I'm betting we will see a lot more of this in NZ in the upcoming period. Cullen has demonstrated that tax is the method to solve a problem, so taxed we shall be.
